Redwind Scenario Generator for Windows
What is Redwind?
Redwind is a PC Windows based application that provides powerful DIS compatible Scenario Generator. The application has been designed as an easy to use, extremely user friendly Tactical level fidelity War Gaming Scenario Generator.
While the application provides support for land based entities, it is primarily focused at Naval and Air operations. Redwind supports DIS platforms for domain Land, Air, Surface, Subsurface, Lifeforms, Cultural Features, Expendable Decoys (both passive and active) and both guided and ballistic munitions.
Entity interactions with munitions, and munitions interactions with platforms/decoys are supported, with "Retry Capability" for guided munitions.
Waypoints (up to 99) are supported for both platforms and munitions, with ETA calculations for both the next waypoint and the final destination.
In addition to the waypoint capability for platforms, Rewind also supports 9 separate mission types that may be assigned to any platform.
- Patrol: A mission where the platform maneuvers either under manual control or under waypoint control, and activates its emitter each specified interval for a specified time period.
- Fly Airlane: A mission where the platform maneuvers along a pre-defined airlane.
- Keep Station: A mission where a surface/subsurface platform maintains a specified range and relative bearing from a selected surface platform.
- Orbit: A mission where the platform orbits a selected orbit point at a selected radius.
- S-Track: A mission where the platform maneuvers at a snake pattern around a specified heading.
- Racetrack: A mission where the platform maneuvers in racetrack pattern around two specified orbit points.
- Figure-8: A mission where the platform maneuvers in a figure 8 pattern around a specified point.
- Elliptical: A mission where the platform maneuvers in an elliptical pattern.
- Formation: A mission where the platform mimics the heading/speed/height of a selected formation leader.
Along with the facility to save defined entities (along with all current options like waypoints and/or mission data) to a file, a very powerful option enables "incremental" loading of entities from disk. That is, even with an exercise consisting of many entities executing, it is possible to load say a "task group" of pre-defined entities and add them to the exercise.
How many entities can Redwind support?
The entity capacity of the application obviously depends on the platform it is executing on, but as an example, on a 1.5GHz P4 it will comfortably support 200 entities, and will start to labor at around 400 entities.
What Format Terrain Maps does the application require?
As Redwind has been designed primarily for Naval/Air applications, it does not require any terrain maps at all. Instead, the entities world coastline is available to the application, and the application automatically supports entities located anywhere in the entire world.
In addition to the world coastline, Redwind provides facilities for the user the define custom "Exercise Areas" (Op Areas), Airlanes as well as Fictitious Coastlines.
The screen capture shown below demonstrates an Exercise Area, two Airlanes, a number of entities flying along the airlane, and an entity executing an S- Track mission.
